Getting Involved

Day of Giving

2010 date TBA

10am - 4pm

Dear Donor:

Greetings from Genesee Valley. As you may know, Genesee Valley Outdoor Learning Center has been providing quality learning experiences for individuals of all ages and backgrounds since it was incorporated as a non-profit in 1981. Genesee Valley has become a widely recognized facility for its beauty, the quality and dedication of its staff, and the effectiveness of its various programs. Our facilities and programs are a valuable learning resource for all of Maryland and surrounding states.

Over the years, Genesee Valley has helped more the 750,000 people to grow through the experiences offered here. As we welcome new generations of participants, we continue to provide quality programs while working hard to expand and improve our services. Genesee Valley is a non-profit organization, therefore we do not receive governmental funding; most of our programs operate on the funds generated through tuition. In succeeding to exceed industry standards and excel in our mission, as well as being a non-profit, we are faced with inevitable costs: helmets, harnesses, canoes, tents, equipment, fuel, utilities, salaries, insurance and facilities, just to name a few. Despite these costs, we strive to provide affordable programs for all individuals and groups.

To continue to offer excellent and affordable programming, we are asking for the support of our community. On Saturday October 24th 2009 we are planning our fifth Day of Giving, which is a volunteer event where family, friends and community members will come out to the property for a day of hard work, beautification of the land, maintaining of the buildings and a time of gathering. In an effort to make this day as successful as possible, we need to rely on local businesses for their generous donations. We are asking for monetary, service and goods donations. We appreciate anything you are willing to give. All donations are tax deductible. We are a 501(c)(3) organization. Any organization or company that donates will be recognized at the event and on our website. We greatly appreciate those who have given in the past and we truly rely on your support to keep wonderful events, such as our Day of Giving, going season after season. If you have donated before, please give only what you can, and if it is not possible for you to give now, we will always be thankful to have had your support in the past.

Please join our staff, family, friends and community members for a rewarding day of volunteer projects that help to maintain and beautify this wonderful place. Volunteers can choose from a variety of projects including painting, planting and trail building.

Aside from being a great way to show your support for Genesee Valley, Day of Giving is a great opportunity to re-visit old friends and meet some new one too. This is a perfect opportunity for volunteers to earn community service hours as well. Lunch will be provided, as well as child care for those of us with little ones. Afterwards, the climbing barn and zip lines will be going for you to enjoy and cap off a fun and invigorating day!

Day of Giving volunteers have made great contributions to Genesee Valley in the past few years. We have painted murals for the kids to enjoy, planted trees and flowers that have grown up beautifully and built and maintained pathways/trails so that our ropes courses are easy to get to and enjoy.

In addition to volunteer work, the Day of Giving will serve as an open house event. We will have information and people to talk to about our daily programs, employment opportunities and summer camp! Please come out, visit us and we would be glad to answer any questions you may have.
